Welcome!

topWe are excited to welcome you to The TMJ Association's first issue of TMJ News Bites! This publication will keep you informed and updated in a timely manner on the latest news regarding temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders (TMJDS) and our activities.

The TMJ Association envisions a world in which temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders (TMJDs) are history. Until then, our mission is to improve the quality of health care and life for everyone affected by TMJDs. YOU are a critical partner in helping us to achieve our goals and we are so pleased to now be able to communicate with you in an efficient and timely manner. We want to contact you when our collective voices will have an impact, and we'll return the favor by keeping you updated on news of interest in the TMJD area as well as letting you know of the progress all of us together are making in changing the face of TMJ!

Sincerely,

Terrie Cowley
President

Advocacy Spotlight!

There is power in numbers and your TMJ voice needs to be heard!

  • The Obama administration is interested in hearing from citizens on health care issues. This is an unprecedented opportunity for us to tell it like it is!

Money talks, and reducing health care costs is a persuasive argument for action. One of the major issues in TMJD treatment is that patients routinely spend tens of thousands of dollars on unnecessary
    and/or inappropriate treatments
. By noting how much treatments cost, versus their effectiveness, we can make an argument that more comparative effectiveness studies of available TMJD treatments are needed. Research is necessary to find out what works best for the least amount of money.

Please take a few moments and tell your personal story of how TMJ disorders have affected your life. Let your government know that we need funding specifically for TMJDs research. Please limit your comments to 5,000 characters.

  • Thank you to Marina, a TMJ patient who took time to send an e-mail to health writer Jane Brody, who wrote a recent article that appeared in The New York Times, Best Treatment for TMJ May Be Nothing.  We're grateful to have people like Marina in our corner. Click here to read Marina's e-mail.

TMJ News Bites will keep you informed of advocacy opportunities and share examples of how others are making a difference. Together we are changing the face of TMJ!
