On May 3rd, the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research sponsored a roundtable meeting on the biology of the temporomandibular joint, together with the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases and the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering. The meeting brought together scientists with expertise in areas related to the structures and tissues of the temporomandibular joint to explore new research approaches to advance our understanding of temporomandibular joint function. The goal was to provide a set of research recommendations to the scientific community that will develop and create a path forward in contemporary, multidisciplinary research on temporomandibular joint function in health and disease.
